> WHAT_IS_LEAD_SCANNER
Lead Scanner is a free tool built for freelance web designers and agencies who want to find local businesses that don't have a website. Instead of guessing who needs your services, you can search any city, drag a radius on the map, and instantly see every business in that area with no online presence.
Every result comes with a phone number, rating, review count, and a direct link to their Google Maps profile, with everything you need to start your outreach.
> WHY_IT_WAS_BUILT
Finding web design clients is one of the hardest parts of running a freelance business. Cold outreach works, but only when you're reaching out to businesses that actually need a website. Lead Scanner solves the discovery problem by filtering out businesses that already have an online presence and handing you a clean list of genuine prospects.
Lead Scanner is currently free to use. As the tool grows, paid plans with expanded features may be introduced, but early users will always be the first to know.
> HOW_IT_WORKS_UNDER_THE_HOOD
Lead Scanner is powered by the Google Places API. When you run a scan, it searches for businesses matching your category within the radius you set. It then checks each business for a website field; if a website is present, the business is skipped. Only businesses with a phone number but no website make it into your leads list.
The backend is built with Python (FastAPI) and the frontend uses vanilla JavaScript with Leaflet.js for the interactive map. The full source code is available on GitHub.
